Really appreciate the work you all are doing to make art a more livable pursuit under capitalism. Question: in working toward getting legislation passed to make A-Corps a reality, what else can we do now besides spreading the word to gather support? Reach out to state lawmakers?

Would you say more about how this differs from the multitude of cooperative structures already in existence? There's so much creativity and interesting work happening within the solidarity economy that addresses the conundrums you outline. One thing that I'd love to see explicitly addressed is how these models will work to avoid exploitation of creative labor... I can see that this could easily become another pathway for capital to take advantage.

Hi Kate, thanks for your question.

A-Corps are not just for collective structures. This also applies to solo artists and creators, which comprise more than 50% of working artists. We're trying to create greater economic and legal rights for both of those types of working artists, not just collectives.

We're structuring A-Corps to be able to serve similar purposes as cooperatives, and to have democratic governance if they wish.
