1) Last chance to join the Lonely Writers Club
Last week we introduced the Lonely Writers Club, a peer group for writers providing creative mutual support. During the month of September, this group will meet weekly to explore how to transform our writing practices, find other writers to collaborate and publish with, develop shared resources, and create new writing clubs and labels together in the process.
As of today, nearly 150 members have joined – including contributors to TIME, The New York Times, Vice, Artforum, Fast Company, Frieze, Spike Art Magazine and more. This week things will kick off with a talk by Yancey from Metalabel on how to escape Lonely Creator Syndrome, and an overview of effective models for collaborative writer projects.
Want to join a supportive community of peers? Apply here in the next 24 hours before applications close.
2) Why I Write
Our own Austin Robey wrote an essay last week sharing more behind why we started Lonely Writer’s Club that a lot of people have been connecting with. Read it yourself here.
3) Tuesday: Metalabel Takeover for Richard Turley’s NUTS Magazine Launch
Tomorrow (09/12), the designer Richard Turley (Civilization, Interview Magazine, FOOD) is releasing the first issue of a new magazine called NUTS, and is taking over the Metalabel space for the entire day to celebrate.
As part of the takeover, Richard and the NUTS team will work from Metalabel’s Chinatown NYC office, bringing in friends, family, press, contributors, collaborators, and surprise guests for talks, performances, and who knows what else. The day will both celebrate the launch of the inaugural issue of the zine, and begin work on the second issue. There will be photography, music performances, and an open bar.
Buy tickets here or watch a live stream of the Metalabel space all day on Tuesday on Twitch.
4) Joshua Citarella and Rehash
Yancey from Metalabel recently popped up on two podcasts to share more about our vision, our history, and what we’re building. Click here to listen to Yancey talk to the artist Joshua Citarella for his podcast, and here to listen to an appearance on the Rehash pod.
